Our foundation works towards creating conditions for the prosperity of Ukraine and the development of the potential of talented children. Over the years of our activities, we have made a significant contribution to philanthropy and support various sectors of society.
The charitable foundation “Velyka Rodyna” plays an important role in popularizing and honoring the renowned Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. Founded with the aim of promoting culture and supporting projects that expand cultural horizons and spread the legacy of the Great Bard, the foundation actively propagates Shevchenko’s works among a wide audience.
One of the largest projects of the foundation is the international film project competition for the best film about Taras Shevchenko, which was held in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Ukrainian poet.
As part of this project, a platform was created for talented filmmakers from around the world to showcase their ideas and visions of the life and work of the poet on screen.
In 2012, the screenplay by O. Denysenko became the winner
of the International Film Script Competition for a film about Shevchenko,
which was announced and conducted by the Charitable Foundation “Velyka Rodyna”.
The competition attracted numerous submissions from talented directors, screenwriters, and producers. Participants had the opportunity to narrate the unique story of Taras Shevchenko through images, dialogues, and emotions on the big screen. The films presented reflected various aspects of the poet’s life, his creative journey, poetic heritage, and influence on Ukrainian culture.

We are seeking innovation and prioritize projects that appeal to people of all ages, targeting different segments of the population with diverse cultural tastes and preferences. Our goal is to popularize and honor the renowned Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko within Ukrainian society. Each generation reinterprets his spiritual legacy, creativity, and ideas in their own unique way.
Overall, the “Velyka Rodyna” foundation has implemented a variety of projects aimed at popularizing the legacy of Taras Shevchenko and attracting public attention to his contribution to Ukrainian culture. One such project took place on March 12, 2015, at the National Academy of Internal Affairs, when Shevchenko Readings were organized to commemorate the 204th anniversary of the poet’s birth. This solemn event, supported by the “Velyka Rodyna” charitable foundation, became not only a poetic gathering but also an important moment in honoring the legacy of the Great Bard.
Our foundation always strives to support education and culture. In particular, we have published a series of books titled “Shevchenkiana for Educators,” authored by writer, researcher, and Doctor of Philosophy Viktor Oleksiyovych Zhadko. This unique publication, based on extensive factual material, reveals details of various periods in the life and work of the Great Bard. The book is intended for scholars, Shevchenko scholars, Ukrainian literature and history teachers, as well as a wide range of readers.
In March 2015, the exhibition of children’s artworks titled “Shevchenko. Young Perspective” opened at the Museum of the History of Kyiv City. It was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth and organized by the Charitable Foundation “The Great Family.” This project allowed children to experience and express their perception of the Great Bard’s creativity through art.
The foundation not only aims to preserve and celebrate the national heritage of the Great Bard but also helps the Ukrainian people in difficult life situations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Charitable Foundation “Velyka Rodyna” demonstrated its social responsibility and mobilized its resources to provide assistance to medical institutions and healthcare workers. We entered into a cooperation agreement with the Kyiv Regional Oncology Dispensary and provided them with various equipment, including a vehicle, refrigeration equipment, medical devices, and protective suits.
During the Russian military invasion, in this challenging time, the foundation actively supports Ukrainian soldiers by providing them with essential supplies, medical equipment, and other necessities. This assistance plays a crucial role in the fight for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence.
Recognizing the need to support internally displaced persons, the Charitable Foundation “The Great Family” actively collaborates with civil society organizations and government structures to provide them with necessary social support.
In August 2022, we organized a charity event in the Verkhovyna district aimed at assisting internally displaced persons. We provided delicious porridge, baked goods, and hot tea to those in attendance. We particularly focused on children, who require special attention, by organizing entertainment activities for them. Representatives from the social protection department of the Chyhyryn city council also participated in the event, and together we provided humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons, low-income families, and large families residing in the district.
Additionally, the foundation actively supports talented youth and the development of children’s talents. Through various contests and programs, “Velyka Rodyna” provides opportunities for creative development and the discovery of children’s potential. This includes supporting young artists, writers, musicians, and other talented individuals, helping them realize their dreams and achieve high results in their respective fields.
In 2015, in collaboration with the magazine “Ukrainian People,” we organized the gala concert “Children for the Future of Ukraine” under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine. The concert featured displaced children from various cities in Ukraine, and 40 young performers graced the stage.
We are also proud to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of culture in Ukraine. In 2019, we donated modern multimedia projectors to the National Opera of Ukraine, which were acquired with the grant assistance of the Japanese government under the Cultural Projects Support Program “KUSANONE.”
We want to emphasize that the Charitable Foundation “Velyka Rodyna” is dedicated to the goal of popularizing and honoring the great Bard, Taras Shevchenko. We aim to attract the attention of people of all ages, give preference to a diversity of cultural tastes and preferences, in order to constantly highlight the poetic legacy of the great Shevchenko, which becomes a source of thoughtful thoughts and inspiration for each new generation.
